It was established in the year 1816 under the British Raj and is one of the oldest cantonments in India.

The Secunderabad Cantonment area covers an area of around 40 square kilometers and is home to over 2 lakh people. The primary responsibility of the Cantonment Board is to provide basic civic amenities and services to the residents of the area, including sanitation, water supply, street lighting, roads, and public health.

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board is governed by a president, who is a senior military officer, and a board of elected members. The board consists of 8 elected members, including 3 ex-officio members – the station commander, the garrison engineer, and the executive engineer.

The Cantonment Board also plays an important role in maintaining law and order in the area, with the help of the military and civil police. It also promotes and encourages cultural and sports activities, and provides facilities for the same.

Overall, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is an important administrative body that plays a crucial role in maintaining the well-being and quality of life of the residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment area.
